This is one of the nerdiest places in the school! With a full lab of iMacs and other media equipment, students have all the tools necessary to be creative and produce amazing things. Guiding students along the way sharing his own experiences is me, Mr. Jared Nichol!
This is my 11th year of teaching and my 4th teaching multimedia in the high school. What I love about multimedia is seeing a student take an idea and turn it into a reality in a short film, a music video, news broadcast or animation. My courses this year are Television Production 10, 20, 30, Online Learning, Multimedia 10, 20, 30, Television Production 9, Multimedia 9 and Tutorial 9.
Outside of the class I coach rugby and run the program for boys and girls. We had our larger group of players ever last year and we are looking to expand again. Any students at CLHS or Assumption school in grades 9-12 are welcome to play. Please see me in room 1517 or join the Cold Lake High School Rugby Facebook page.
For 2011-2012 I really excited about some amazing opportunities for multimedia students. Starting in November in block 3 students will be working with Google Sketchcup and OpenCad to do 3D modelling of building, objects and whatever they can think up to design! We have partnered with Imperial Oil who has generously donated funds to the Multimedia Program at CLHS. These funds will be used for purchasing cameras, other video equipment and 3D printing technology. Students will be able to print in 3D and generate physical models of their design work using a Makerbot! Here's a glimpse of what a Makerbot does:
When I'm not finding out about new technology and nerdy ways to incorporate it into my classroom, I'm a proud father of 2 children and have a wonderful wife who keeps me balanced. The past summer was very exciting for my family as my brother was married in Waskateneau and our whole extended family went on a huge vacation to Washington. For the fall and winter I will enjoy playing dodgeball, ultimate, hockey and doing a boot camp class with friends.
Please feel free to contact me whenever you need to. I encourage parents and students to email me with any questions they may have. It's the fastest way to get ahold of me:
