DESIGN STUDIES "PASSION PROJECT"

Page history last edited by Jared Nichol 12 years, 4 months ago

Getting Started

This project has a few parameters to keep in mind

1. 20% of your time in Design Studies will be dedicated to this project. Each Monday will be reserved for you to work on this project. Any additional time you have outside of class, or in class when you are finished another task will be OK to use.

2. You need to approach your project with the design process in mind. All steps of the project must follow this process.

3. Share EVERYTHING! This means each day you work on something for your passion project, you will need to share it on your blog with the tag "clhsdesign" and "personal learning project". Check out Mr. Nichol's blog where he has been sharing his own personal learning project.

4. Physical and Digital modelling will be a part of your project.

5. Your final project must be shared on your blog and presented to the class by January 18.

THIS IS WHERE YOU GET TO MODEL IN GOOGLE SKETCHUP AND START PROTOTYPING! Choose one idea and go with it!

Give yourself permission to create several versions of the product. v1.0, 2.0, 2.1, 3.0. Be prepared to throw that idea out and take another one further!

1. Build several mockups on paper with sketches.

2. If possible, create a physical mockup with paper, cardboard, pipe cleaners, etc.

3. Create a 3D model in Sketchup

4. Get feedback on your design from several people. Develop 3 to 4 guiding questions that you want ot ask your classmates. What do they say about your model? Show them the evolution of your designs from paper to 3D model, then ask them questions.

Examples:

"If you could change one thing...."

"What is they best part of this design?"

"What would you like to be improved in this idea?"

Blogging:

5. Share pictures of your sketches, models.

6. What were your questions?

7. What feedback did you get about your design?

8. What further changes are you going to do to the design?
