Welcome to Multimedia, Art and Design at CLHS!

This is one of the nerdiest places in the school! With a full lab of iMacs and other media equipment, students have all the tools necessary to be creative and produce amazing things. Guiding students along the way sharing his own experiences is me, Mr. Jared Nichol!

This is my 15th year of teaching and my 6th teaching multimedia in the high school. What I love about multimedia is seeing a student take an idea and turn it into a reality in a short film, a music video, news broadcast or animation. My courses this year are Television Broadcasting, Technology and Design, Multimedia 9, and Art 10, 20, 30.

Outside of the class I coach rugby and run the program for boys and girls. We had our larger group of players ever last year and we are looking to expand again. Any students at CLHS, Assumption, or Ecole Voyaguer in grades 9-12 are welcome to play. Please see me in room 1517 or join the Cold Lake High School Rugby Facebook page.

For 2014-15 I really excited about some amazing opportunities for all students. I am especially excited to teach Art 10, 20, 30 and bring a different perspective and some new ideas to the program. Art was one of my favourite subjects in high school. The year students in second semester Design Studies will be learning about the Design Process, and using problem solving and critical thinking to develop solutions to challenges that I present to them. This may require them to do 3D modelling of buildings, creating signs for the school, design purposeful 'widgets' and whatever they can dream up!

When I'm not finding out about new technology and nerdy ways to incorporate it into my classroom, I'm a proud father of 2 children and have a wonderful wife who keeps me balanced. The past summer was very exciting for me as I travelled to Calgary to participate in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. There were over 1600 cyclists who rode 218km over two days to raise funds for cancer research. Over 7.5 million dollars was raised!

Please feel free to contact me whenever you need to. I encourage parents and students to email me with any questions they may have. It's the fastest way to get ahold of me:

Class Expectations

Student Expectations

Demonstrate positive attitudes and behaviour (I have tired days too but be ready to work hard, and you will see the rewards)

- Be Responsible (Take ownership of your work and do it to the best of your ability, your team depends on it)

- Be Adaptable (things change so fast here, be prepared to scrap something and move on)

- Learn Continuously (what can I do to do a better job in the newsroom?)

- Work Safely (there is equipment than can harm you if you're not careful, and its VERY expensive!)

- Demonstrate teamwork skills (Don't let others down on your team)

- Participate in all projects and tasks (checking out is not an option, so what can Mr. Nichol or others do to help you get going?)

PLEASE RESPECT THE NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE MULTIMEDIA LAB OR NEW STUDIO
